Bayern Headed to Champions League Final
Wow. What a game. Unbelievable that Bayern was able to go into the Santiago Bernabéu and come out with a win. What was surprising in both legs was Bayern’s relative dominance of possession and play. There will be excuses, like the Classico…etc – but bottom line – Bayern was the better team. I have to admit – my heart almost stopped after the first 15 minutes though on 2-0. Bayern played with tenacity and came through. The win on penalties was glorious. I am tired of hearing commentators call penalties a lottery. Bullshit. As a former goaltender – it is as much a test of skill and steely nerves as any part of the game! Are free throws in basketball a coin toss? Nope. What was particularly amazing here is you had the worlds two best goaltenders facing each other. It fired me up after the game to hear ESPN commentators say the Ronaldo and Kaka missed their penalties. They did not miss. Neuer made two unbelievable saves. Iker did much the same…although the shot of Kroos was weak at best. I think the only real blunder in those penalties was Ramos. He blew it for his team…but even if he had scored – I still liked Bayern’s chances as you go down the lineup.
I wish I could attend that final. It is going to be electric. Tickets are sitting around $2500 which is just a little too rich for my blood! No doubt it will be an entertaining final – no more or no less than if it was yet another Clasico…which I am glad to say it is not!
